Cladisporium resinae - bugs in Diesel fuel
Cladisporium is actually a fungus family that includes several kinds of mould and occurs in nature. Although It can cause skin infections and respiratory problems, its biggest impact is that the spores are so small and light that they float around looking for nutrients. In the “right” conditions in fuel tanks (both at a poorly maintained filling station as well as in a vehicle) the spores multiply at a dramatic rate, creating slime and sludge that clogs filters, literally eat rubber gaskets, O-rings hoses and tank linings. Ultimately, complete engine and engine-component failure is not uncommon due in part to the corrosive effect of the hydrogen sulphide produced at part of the fungal-growth process.
This is one good reason to purchase fuel of a reputable brand from a well-maintained sales outlet. Another is to apply preventative maintenance to your vehicle’s fuel system. (Also see the page DIESEL PERFORMANCE
The WURTH triple action fuel system treatment used by Graeme Cooper Automotive combines a biocide, cetane rate Improver Treatment and Cleaner. This not only prevents fuel system contamination, but also provides a more complete fuel burn, therefore more power, less emission, less carbon build up and more fuel efficiency.
